Summertime Smoothies

Summer is in full swing with families playing, swimming, riding bikes, and staying hungry. Freshly prepared smoothies can balance hunger, give needed nutrients, and keep everyone hydrated. A smoothie is easy if you have a blender, milk, yogurt, and fresh or frozen fruits.

In the early morning, mom and dad may enjoy a cold drink in the summer instead of hot coffee. A Chocolate Almond Coffee Cooler with coffee crystals, milk, and cocoa powder, is a winner for starting the day.

Kids and adults love this Peanut  Butter Cup Protein Smoothie for a quick go-to for running out the door in the morning. Enjoy this smoothie made with milk, Greek yogurt, and peanut butter, along with a muffin or breakfast bar.

For a tropical twist, try this Hawaiian Harvest Smoothie featuring kefir and coconut-flavored Greek yogurt. Kefir is a fermented milk beverage with probiotics that may improve digestion, heart health, and bone health and help to regulate blood sugar.

For individuals with lactose sensitivity, this Banana Strawberry Licuado made with lactose-free milk, fruit, and a splash of lime juice is a great option!  Licuados are cool and refreshing Latin American beverages very similar to smoothies.

Try a Refreshingly Raspberry Smoothie with Greek yogurt, milk, raspberries, and cucumber for a cool drink before going to play or work out. This is like sunshine in a glass.

My favorite smoothie is this guilt-free delight, Triple Berry Smoothie. This fruity smoothie has frozen mixed berries and creamy Greek yogurt, with a little dose of fresh spinach. A perfect beverage to enjoy after a long day of ball games, or when you just need a β€œlittle something” to indulge in.

Smoothies are great for hydrating during the summertime and supply 13 essential nutrients. Fresh or frozen fruit, some plain or Greek yogurt, and a splash of milk are all you need to have nutrition in a glass. Plus, smoothies don’t require cooking in this hot summertime, just enjoying. Next time when the family is hungryβ€”show them how to make a powerhouse smoothie with fruit and flavor they love.
