National Dairy Month Events Near You

As National Dairy Month comes to an end, let’s look back at some of the top events this June celebrating the Southeast’s dairy farmers. If any are of interest to you, make sure to check returning events out next June.

Looking for a tasty treat this National Dairy Month? Visit Boondocks BBQ and Creamery in Wedowee, Alabama! Boondocks has you covered with some delicious milkshakes all month long! They are celebrating dairy by using real dairy and handing out bracelets and coloring books from The Dairy Alliance all month long.

The Walthall County Dairy Festival in Mississippi has been described by out-of-town media as one of the best old-time festivals in existence. The festival is free to attend for a day full of live entertainment, pageants, and exciting contests, making it a real treat for families looking for a day of fun. Come grab some free ice cream and milk and learn a bit about the history and dairy industry in Tylertown, Mississippi!

The Dairy Alliance celebrated milk at the Putnam County Dairy Festival on Saturday, June 1, with free ice cream for all dairy lovers! This year, the Putnam Dairy Festival spotlighted Georgia Future Farmers of America (FFA) and the contributions that the students involved have made to their community. Putnam FFA students help with National Dairy Month every year by passing out ice cream and educational materials at The Dairy Alliance booth—we couldn’t do it without their help! Join us in downtown Eatonton each year for all the festival has to offer, including the 5K Road Race and Fun Run, dairy parade, and all kinds of fun vendors from food to arts and crafts.

National MooFest, McMinn County's beloved dairy festival, took place Saturday, June 1, from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. in historic downtown Athens, Tennessee. The festival features several popular activities including the Maggie Strutt, Athens Soap Box Derby qualifying finals, local shopping, over 100 food, crafts, and art vendors, Mayfield Dairy Farms contests, and interactive agricultural exhibits. There will also be live entertainment on two stages ending with a bluegrass theme. MooFest is presented by Mayfield Dairy Farms celebrating 100 years of producing world-famous ice cream, as well as the city of Athens, McMinn County Tourism Board, AgCentral, UT Extension, and Friendly City Festivals.

The special Dairy Night at the Ballgame has been a fun collaboration with The Dairy Alliance, the Kentucky Dairy Development Center, and several other sponsors for almost 20 years. Dairy is represented at both the Lexington Legends and Bowling Green Hotrods June baseball games. Promotional items are given away, and the spotlight is shown on the local dairy farmers who make this industry what it is today!

The Anderson County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee and Pendleton 4-H hosted a Dairy Day at the Anderson County Farmers Market on June 15. There was free ice cream, dairy activities, giveaways, and the chance to pet a calf! Visitors tested their dairy knowledge and won fun prizes throughout the event.

The Dairy Alliance again partnered with Explore More Children’s Museum to present Farm Day on June 15 from 12:00-5:00 pm as part of the Best.Weekend.Ever! event in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The museum event had free milk, live farm animals, and other farm-themed activities for the family to enjoy. This event is part of an over-decade-long partnership, making it an event many families can’t wait to attend each year.

Next week, we will look at even more events that happened this National Dairy Month. If you are late to the party (or just don’t want it to end), be sure to visit a dairy farm near you to celebrate the local dairy industry.
