Thankful to Dairy Farming

In honor of Thanksgiving this month, we asked some of the dairy farmers across the Southeast why they are thankful for dairy farms and dairy farming. Below are some of their responses.

Giving Thanks to Dairy Farming

“Words can hardly express how grateful and proud I am to be a dairy farmer. My husband and I are the first generation to milk cows on his family’s farm. The opportunity to raise our kids on the farm while working and enjoying time together means a lot to me. Pursuing a career in the dairy industry has also allowed me to continue my passion for connecting with people about agriculture and dairy’s integral role in our food supply.”

-Kim Martin, Catawba View Dairy in Fincastle, Virginia

“I am a 3rd generation dairyman in the mountains of Western North Carolina. I am blessed to be able to work alongside my grandparents, parents, sister, and wife. We get to work as a family, which is uncommon among most professions.
I am also thankful for this lifestyle’s diversity among day-to-day operations and the challenges and successes it can bring every day. No day is the same which always keeps it interesting.
I enjoy being around cattle as well as problem-solving to continue to better our herd and our farm. One of my favorite things to do is chop corn in the fall. I am continually grateful for the opportunities dairy farming has provided me and my family. I am looking forward to raising my own family and growing our farm, as there is nothing that would make me more thankful than to see my family here for more generations to come.”

-Zachary Ross, Ross Dairy, Inc. in Waynesville, North Carolina

“I am thankful to farm because I have the pleasure of working with my family every day. It is an honor seeing my little boy, TJ, learning about farming. I get to teach him how to care for the land, cows, and farm on faith while providing a nutritious product for consumers.”

-Austin Waldroup, first-generation dairy farmer at Waldroup Dairy in Lagrange, Georgia

“I am thankful for the opportunity to farm because I believe that it is a blessing to be able see God’s creations in action on the farm. I farm for my family and enjoy being able to get up every morning and do what I love while continuing my family legacy of dairy farming for over 70 years.”

-Ben Brown, Brown Dairy Farm in Southside, Alabama

These dairy farmers are thankful to their farms and we are thankful to them for producing high-quality, nutritious milk. This month and every month, thank you, dairy farmers and dairy farm families, for your dedication!
