The night sky is full of beauty and marvel, but nothing evokes images of romance and mystery more than our faithful companion, the Moon. A celestial body that has given birth to many myths and legends since ancient days, the Moon has always been a source of fascination for both artists and scientists alike. Thanks to recent space explorations, interest in the stars has been at an all-time high, whether it’s just traveling in space in luxury or setting up colonies on the Moon and Mars. Space and beyond is no longer just science fiction but a part of our history, and what better way to preserve and honor that history than with a timeless watch that puts the elegance and mystery of the moon on your wrist.

The Moon is our lone satellite and the closest celestial body to our home planet, yet there are still many things about it that beguile and confound scientists. The dark side of the moon that we never get to see from Earth has always been a source of mystery and even omens, especially considering how much the Moon can actually influence life on the planet. Still, the Moon feels near yet so far, but this luxurious watch puts it right on your wrist, with a small yet significant nod to history and a tribute to mankind’s achievements, both past and future.

Meteorite Moon Dust – Their meteorite, with the ID#NWA11515, was found in 2017 and provided by MSG Meteorites, a British company specialized in certified space rocks and licensed by the IMCA (International Meteorite Collectors Association).

Lunar1,622 Watch with Integrated NASA Logo – The project respects the necessary permissions and aligns with NASA’s guidelines for NASA logo usage.

Named after the surface gravity on the Moon, the LUNAR1,622 is a handsome mechanical watch that goes beyond simply putting the face of the moon on the timepiece. Just like the previous Mars-inspired Interstellar timepiece, it holds a relic of the moon, specifically a small amount of moon dust at the three o’clock position (the standard model gets the footprint shape of Neil Armstrong instead). This moon dust was taken from rare lunar meteorites, specifically the Moon Meteorite ID# NWA11515 that was found in 2017 in Northwest Africa. The back of the watch also boasts the official NASA logo, which would delight space exploration fans even more. There will only be 2025 Premium editions made, in honor of the next lunar mission Artemis 3 in that year.

LUNAR1,622 commemorates Neil Armstrong’s iconic words, “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

On the edge of the dial all the way around it, you’ll find all successful Apollo missions numbered. All missions that landed on the moon are marked in gold.

Commemorating the historic Apollo 11 mission, this timepiece features the mission’s name, date and Neil Armstrong’s initials.

Of course, the Interstellar LUNAR1,622 isn’t just a one-of-a-kind science collectible, it is also a piece of horology craftsmanship as well. Both Standard and Advanced models bear the famed Miyota automatic movement, while the Premium variant boasts a Swiss Sellita automatic movement, both delivering the precision and reliability expected from high-quality mechanical watches. Sandblasted 316L stainless steel cases (titanium for the Premium model), in classic Black or stylish Silver, give the watch both durability and finesse, while the black leather strap accentuates its luxurious character. The LUNAR1,622’s subtle elegance perfectly embodies the timeless beauty of the Moon, captivating without being overwhelming.

NFC Technology

Whether you’re a space buff, a horology connoisseur, or an avant-garde collector, there is perhaps nothing more beautiful and mystical than having the moon on your wrist, quite literally even. Inspired by lunar expeditions and carrying a pinch of authentic moon dust inside, the Interstellar LUNAR1,622 is more than just a beautiful and historic timepiece, it is also a testament to humanity’s ambitions to reach for the stars and our perseverance to make that dream a reality.

“World’s Lightest Mechanical Watch” clocks in at a Stunning 8.8 Grams in Weight

]]>

Billed as the world’s lightest mechanical watch, the MING LW.01 boasts an impressive weight of just 8.8 grams (0.31 ounces) for the manual variant and 10 grams (0.35 ounces) for the automatic variant. For reference, that’s lighter than one AirTag… or about as much as two AirPods WITHOUT the case.

The LW.01 takes the idea of minimalism a little bit further by going beyond just the visual sense of the word. “We wanted to push the envelope further than we – or any other brand – has ever done,” the folks at MING said. This includes some brilliant design hacks, the use of novel materials, and basically removing everything non-essential. In short, the folks at MING Marie Kondo-ed the hell out of this watch… and the result definitely sparks joy.

Designer: MING

The watch itself is a work of art, featuring a dial that’s as minimal to look at as its bill of materials. In fact, there isn’t a dial at all. The LW.01’s minute hand sits on a disc that obscures the movement, while the central portion comes with a gradient print that hides the skeletal view of the watch, while also having the watch’s minimal markings on its periphery. Every part of the watch is art and engineering combined to its nth degree, creating something that really stands at the intersection of great design and immaculate engineering.

“We set ourselves some ‘conventional’ constraints, though: the watch had to be a wearable size, and retain certain tactile qualities such as the texture and thermal transfer of metal,” MING’s team mentioned. “More importantly, it would have to be practically wearable and not technically compromised purely for the sake of lightness. As it turns out, it would take us a couple of years longer than expected and an exhaustive amount of metallurgy and testing.”

Those constraints, however, don’t in any way diminish the end product. The watch has a spectacular body that’s crafted from a special metal alloy that’s lighter than carbon but has the premium feel of metal. The lugs are turned into bars that allow the strap to through without any additional elements (which would add to its weight), and the face isn’t layered with sapphire crystal. Instead, it opts for equally resistant Corning Gorilla Glass – similar to the slim glass sheet found in smartphones, but with a separate hardening treatment done by UK-based Knight Optical.

“We explored a wide range of ultralight materials including carbon fiber derivatives and hollow-core 3D printing, but ultimately found that AZ31 Magnesium-Aluminium-Zinc-Manganese alloy from Smiths High Performance was both lighter than carbon (1.77g/cc, vs ~2g/cc density), more consistent to produce than hollow 3D printing, and more importantly retained the feel of metal,” MING mentioned. “It is further surface treated by plasmaelectrolytic oxidation by Keronite for corrosion resistance and biocompatibility, with a further composite protective layer.”

Every element of the watch, including the screws made of PEEK composite, the hollowed bezel, and the angled case buttressing, was meticulously optimized to achieve the perfect balance between durability and weight. The crown, crafted from anodized aluminum, ensures durability and smooth threading. To ensure overall torsional rigidity, finite element simulation was employed to assess the watch case. The fixed integral bars, machined from the same billet as the case, not only enhance rigidity but also weigh less than traditional steel spring bars.

As a result, the watch boasts an impressively lightweight head, weighing just 8.8 grams with manual winding, 10.8 grams with automatic winding, along with an additional 0.6 grams for the matching AZ31 buckle and 1.2 grams for the ‘record’ spec Alcantara strap. This translates to a total weight of 10.6 grams or 12.6 grams for a fully assembled, ready-to-wear timepiece… but don’t expect all that innovation to come cheap. The “World’s Lightest Watch” may be lighter than an AirTag, but it’s half the cost of a Tesla Model Y. With a brain-imploding asking price of 19500 Swiss Francs ($21,623 USD), you’re kind of better off buying a Patek Philippe instead.

Apple has always been at the forefront, consistently pushing the boundaries of what is possible in consumer technology. The Apple Watch Ultra 2, with its innovative gesture input system and impressive peak brightness, was a testament to this commitment. But now, a new vision for the future of wearables is taking shape in the concept of the Apple Watch Ultra 3.

Watch Ultra 2 brought us the ability to tap our fingers twice to register a button press, revolutionizing how we interact with our devices. And now a designer has added an element of surprise to the mix by envisioning the Watch Ultra 3 with a built-in 360 camera.

Designer: Abdelrahman Shaapan

Building on this success, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 envisions taking gesture control to a whole new level, although the exact details are still shrouded in mystery. What we do know is that Apple is dedicated to redefining the user experience, which is evident from the recent report that expects Apple to launch the next generation Watch Ultra in 2024 with a 2.1-inch micro-LED display.

Add to that the idea of including a 360 camera in the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and imagine yourself capturing the surroundings in a truly immersive way, all from the convenience of your wrist. This innovation will allow you to relive your journey capturing every moment in stunning detail: undeniably a refined user experience!

According to the concept, the 360 camera on the Apple Watch Ultra 3 seamlessly integrates camera in the watch body, allowing you to control it directly from your wrist. Even more impressive is the watch’s ability to automatically stitch together the captured images or videos in real-time. This allows the watch to create panoramic images and videos. It means you will not have to be a tech wizard to create beautiful, immersive content; the watch will do the heavy lifting for you.

With the additional gimmick, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 will be more intriguing for some photographers; how much it may appeal to an average bloke is undefined. However, what a usual user may be put off by is the bulk this idea will put on the wrist. The watch body fits in all the regular Apple givens along with the camera, which actually adds to the watch’s thickness. Personally, for me, this is just not happening!

Any seasoned Watch owner will tell you that every time you upgrade to a new Watch, you automatically get a new Strap to go with it too. Complete 3 upgrade cycles and you’ve got at least 3 straps that are compatible with even the latest Apple Watch series. It’s normal to resell or return your older Watch, but almost everybody hangs onto their straps to be worn over and over again. Hence the TimePorter, a nifty solution to your multiple-strap-conundrum. Hang them, flaunt them, and wear any strap you want, any time you want!

Measuring 10 inches (255mm) across, the TimePorter is a classy IKEA-esque metal organizer that conveniently lets you store Apple Watch straps when not in use. Designed for Watch aficionados who can sometimes own upwards of 4-5 straps for one single watch, the TimePorter is a nifty way to keep spare straps on display and pick and choose the ones you want to wear on any given day.

The continuous design of the TimePorter lends itself to modularity. You can extend your ‘shelf’ simply by adding another one beside it or below it, giving you an extensive organizer that can be used for your as well as your partner’s straps. 3M adhesive backing lets you stick the TimePorter anywhere, from a wall to a wardrobe door, to even a tiled surface in your bathroom. The hanging nature of the straps makes it rather easy to hang-dry your straps after washing them if you end up wearing the Apple Watch to the gym, while playing sports, or while training.

The adhesive 3M backing is also removable, allowing you to un-dock your TimePorter and place it somewhere else with a fresh set of 3M Command glue strips. The TimePorter’s minimal design works well at letting your straps get the spotlight. You can install the TimePorter in a place that’s easy to view, allowing people to admire your Watch strap collection, or hide it in a wardrobe or on the inside of a cabinet door, just in case you’re a little protective about your abundant collection!

]]>

Hublot is back again with another limited edition luxury watch, and this time it’s a unique Big Bang Tourbillon made in collaboration with British artist Samuel Ross – best known for his modern luxury brand, A-COLD-WALL. Called the Big Bang Tourbillon SR_A, this limited edition $127,000 mechanical tourbillon watch is 44 millimeters of incisive craftsmanship, using gorgeous micro-blasted titanium throughout the body and selectively-colored rubber in the straps and on the crown.

Don’t be shocked by the price; tourbillons are the most luxurious watches you can find on the market. The Big Bang Tourbillon SR_A watch is a luxury item of the highest caliber, which is why it’s staggeringly expensive compared to the already eye-watering Porsche Design Chronograph 1 Utility – Limited Edition watch – in fact, a single Tourbillon SR_A piece is more expensive than both the aforementioned Porsche Design watch and a brand-new 2023 Porsche 911 combined. The explanation for that is simple: only 50 pieces will ever be produced.

Designer: Samuel Ross (via Hublot)

Evidently, this collaboration has been an ongoing effort between Hublot and Samuel Ross since 2020, and it shows. The entire watch is filled with thoughtful visual and mechanical design, right down to the honeycomb-like hexagonal pattern proliferating the entire watch, including its strap.

The Big Bang Tourbillon SR_A strap comes in three different colors, most notably the Vivid Green smooth rubber strap equipped with a shiny titanium clasp. The watch can also be fitted with a black or white rubber strap, both of which look just as elegant thanks to the SR_A’s micro-blasted titanium case and bezel which are covered in little hexagonal holes, matching the visual style throughout the design.

From a purely mechanical perspective, the SR_A impresses with its 72 hour power reserve and HUB6035 automatic tourbillon movement, which is built for gravity-defying precision. Unlike chronograph watches, tourbillon movement relies entirely on balancing a rotating wheel inside of a contraption. In this case, it uses a device called a “mainspring” to maintain the wheel’s balance. The internal powering mechanism must eventually be recharged – by hand, mind you – by winding the crown a certain number of times after the power reserves run out. The SR_A can keep a charge for 72 hours, as previously mentioned, while surviving water submersion up to 30 meters.

The automatic tourbillon system is made up of 243 moving components in an intricate array that measures 33.8mm x 33.8mm x 7.37mm. At the center is a micro-rotor that drives its automatic winding system. Watching all the moving pieces in the Big Bang Tourbillon SR_A work in unison is a sight to behold, especially when the entire thing is dismantled – as you can see in the official Hublot collaboration video linked below:

If you ever find yourself holding one watch in each hand, chances are you can easily tell which one is Swiss-made. The country of Switzerland has perfected watchmaking down to every single screw and spring, resulting in a manufacturing quality so unmatchable, the entire country gets credited for it. Swiss-made watches are beautiful, reliable, but also expensive given that it’s one of the country’s more precious industries. Montoir Watches hopes to change that by focusing on artistry as well as affordability. As a part of the company’s broader ethos, Montoir believes great quality shouldn’t be gatekept by large watchmaking companies with big marketing budgets and high overhead costs. Relying on pure artistry and Swiss craftsmanship, the company’s first watch, the Montoir Dive Watch, sports a design that highlights the beauty of Scandinavian minimalism wrapped with classic Eurocentric styles brought about by Montoir’s obsession with the Swiss Alps down to the French Riviera. The watch is a contemporary masterpiece, with a design that simultaneously feels classic, modern, and timeless.

The watch sports a minimalist body crafted from 316L stainless steel, on top of which sits a 120-click rotating bezel. The bezel holds a top hat double-domed sapphire crystal in the center which gives you a stellar look at the Dive Watch’s clear face.

The face is available in as many as 5 color options, from the standard black or white to even a gorgeous blue or cyan, and a lively orange that still manages to have a classy, universal appeal. Superluminova markings highlight the time not just on the watch face, but also on both the hour and minute hands, letting you clearly read the time even at night.

In true Swiss fashion, the Montoir Dive Watch features a Swiss-made classic Sellita SW200-1 Automatic Movement on the inside. With a 38-hour power reserve, the Sellita SW200-1 is an industry favorite, known for its accuracy, durability, and ease of servicing. The watch also sports recycled FKM (fluoroelastomer) straps that boast excellent resistance to water, chemicals, high temperatures, and extreme environments.

]]>

Porsche Design has over 51 years of experience creating luxurious and nearly indestructible watches; its classic 38 millimeter stainless steel Military Chronograph watch gained the praise of international air forces across the world for its remarkable comfort and durability. That explains the $13,000 price tag on the new Chronograph 1 Utility – Limited Edition watch, which is a modern reimagining of that classic chronograph.

Designer: Roland Heiler, Carsten Monnerjan (via Porsche Design)

Porsche Design noted in its official product page that this is the company’s first use of titanium carbide – an incredibly resistant material typically used to treat industrial machines – in any of its watches.  It’s not only for military pilots, though. Given Porsche Design’s legendary track record, it’s not a stretch to call the Chronograph 1 Utility – Limited Edition an expertly-designed watch that is foolproof against normal wear and tear like scratches, making it a high ticket item for any watch collector who values impeccable craftsmanship.

The watch face is designed to be even more readable in dark environments than previous Porsche Design watch models as well, thanks to the use of blue Super-LumiNova material on the individual hands, dial, and signature instead of Tritium.

For those unfamiliar with analog chronograph watches, there’s no simple way to set timers and alarms as you would effortlessly with a digital watch, so the watch itself needs to be built well enough to juggle multiple times purely through mechanical functionality. This is something Porsche Design does particularly well; the Chronograph 1 Utility – Limited Edition internal clock is a COSC-certified Porsche Design-caliber WERK 01.240, which is described as ensuring “maximum precision” with a flyback function that smoothly starts, stops, and resets time measurements in hours, minutes, seconds, and days.

Much like the original military pilot watch it’s based on, the Chronograph 1 Utility – Limited Edition is designed for heavy use in extreme environments, with a scratch-resistant sapphire glass face and water resistance up to 100 meters. Porsche Design clearly loves paying homage to its classic design, saying, “The new edition’s design, especially the matte-black dial, is of course still reminiscent of the icon from the 1970s.”

Its strap, made of “Genuine Porsche vehicle leather and textile,” is coated with black titanium carbide coating and has the lettering “Porsche Design Utility 2024 Chronograph 1 Limited Edition” etched into the back. As a result, its all-black exterior is as trendy and chic as it is impervious to the elements.

The Chronograph 1 Utility – Limited Edition watch is currently available to pre-order on Porsche Design’s website for $13,000. Only 250 pieces will be manufactured, and they will begin shipping out on January 15, 2024.

]]>

It’s well known that the Apple Watch isn’t a watch – it’s a cutting-edge medical and fitness wearable that also tells the time. Every September, Tim Cook relays stories from regular consumers of how the Apple Watch saved their lives, and it seems like Google’s borrowing a page from its biggest rival. The Pixel Watch 2 made its official debut today and the one thing that stood out was how Google was integrating FitBit into the Pixel Watch to make it an effective health wearable… but that wasn’t all. Aside from just being a flagship fitness and health-monitoring watch, Google also leaned heavily into its AI expertise to make the Pixel Watch 2 a powerful smart wearable. In a rare first, Apple may have pioneered the health wearable… but thanks to its AI abilities, Google is perfecting it.

Google’s parent company Alphabet announced its bid to acquire FitBit in 2019 – a process that was finally completed in 2021. At the time, it seemed odd, given that Google didn’t have a single fitness wearable or smartwatch of its own… but nearly 4 years after its initial announcement, the Pixel Watch 2 is revealing the payoffs of that collaboration.

The Pixel Watch 2 boasts the same teardrop design as its predecessor, but with new hardware and software upgrades. On the software front, the Watch 2 has support for new apps like Gmail and Calendar along with improvements to YouTube Music, Google Assistant, and third-party apps like WhatsApp, Audible, etc. It now also sports the Safety Check feature that Google introduced last year with the Pixel 7 smartphone, allowing your watch to notify your emergency contacts if you don’t respond within a certain time frame – perfect for students, commuters, or anyone who needs a guardian/friend/family member to check in on them.

The hardware upgrade involves an improved heart-rate monitor that is 10x more efficient and accurate than the one on the 1st Gen Pixel Watch, thanks to Google opting for a multi-path sensor that works in tandem with an improved ML algorithm. The watch also has a skin temperature sensor and a continuous electrodermal activity sensor for measuring sleep quality as well as detecting changes in emotion like the feeling of stress.

Where the Pixel Watch 2 really begins overtaking the Apple Watch is in how it deals with the data it gathers from its hardware and sensors. A new and improved AI Assistant now offers a much more intuitive approach to tracking your health. Fitness data gets logged into the Watch 2’s new Fitbit app, with a redesigned interface for the smartphone… but what’s really impressive is the AI’s ability to parse that data in much more meaningful ways. You can now ask the Fitbit app whether there was any improvement between yesterday’s and today’s exercise routine, or if it notices any anomalies in your fitness based on your performance. This new AI-driven approach offers much better insights into your fitness in ways that the Apple Watch probably can’t. Sure, the Watch and Watch Ultra can gather your health and exercise data in expert ways, but what they truly lack is that layer of AI that lets you ‘talk to your data’ to learn things that you probably wouldn’t by simply looking at a chart, graph, or app.

The Watch 2 comes made using recycled aluminum (yet another page from the Carbon Neutral Apple playbook), and sports a 24-hour battery life despite its always-on display. It has the same strap attachment system, so you can use existing straps from the previous model with your new wearable. Each Pixel Watch 2 comes with 6 months of Fitbit Premium, and a month of YouTube Music Premium free, and sports a $349 price tag.

Even when technology is evolving at a rapid pace, there’s something captivating about the fusion of old and new. Simply put, it’s a symphony of nostalgia and a celebration of timeless design. And at the heart of this intriguing blend is the remarkable smartwatch, purposely known as JUSTWATCH because, it is what it is.

A design meant for the discerning individual who appreciates style and function for futuristic design, this retro-futuristic watch is only an amalgamation of elegance and intelligence. The smartwatch exterior exudes a sense of classic beauty defined by clean lines and a sleek profile. While the dial is a timeless facade aligned with smart features waiting to be explored.

Designer: Jacek Janiczak

The JUSTWATCH draws its inspiration from the icons of the past, infusing a subtle vintage vibe into its modern functionality. It’s like a trip down memory lane, where the beauty of yesteryears meets the convenience of today on the analog dial complemented with a monochrome display.

The watch’s body is crafted from premium plastic, ensuring a comfortable fit for all-day wear. But it’s not just about comfort – it’s also about style. Subtle metallic details adorn this masterpiece, elevating its aesthetic appeal to new highs. And to add a touch of modern sophistication, fiber elements have been seamlessly incorporated into the watchband.

Its rectangular dial within the comfortable plastic casing enchants with its functionality. Three circular functions grace the top half of the dial, two dedicated to analog watch time and one serving as a trusty compass. The bottom half of the dial features a rectangular digital watch display, effortlessly merging the past with the present.

For those who appreciate tactile controls, the right side of the dial offers a delightful surprise. A roller wheel for the analog section and a crown wheel for the digital section stand as a testament to the watch’s dedication to user-friendly design. In that, JUSTWATCH is not just a watch; it’s an intuitive companion that helps you navigate through life with ease, and connects to your mobile device to present notifications and alerts. In a world saturated with flashy smartwatches, this one stands apart as a statement of retro-futuristic design!

A watch so unique to look at, Ed Sheeran’s probably in love with the shape of it…

Even as a kid, William Volcoff was an ardent watch-enthusiast, looking for different watch designs that would capture his fancy. Sadly though, there are just a handful of companies that really try to build unique watches. Most high-end watchmakers capitalize on their brand and their craftsmanship rather than on allowing their designers to go wild… but Volcoff realized that if he had to come across a watch that was TRULY different, he had to build it on his own. The W22 is the result of that realization, with a design that questions every aspect of a watch’s design, from its shape, its lug-positioning, and even the layout of its dial.

Designer: William Volcoff

W22 with Cowhide Leather Pilot Strap

The Wolcov W22 sports a Carre-shaped watch body, and ditches the conventional lug placement by positioning them on the sides of the watch instead. The lugs are connected to the watch strap via metal arms that accentuate the W22’s Carre shape, and the watch crown gets moved to the 12 o’clock position, creating an incredibly unique appeal that makes the timepiece recognizable from a mile away.

W22 with Python Leather Strap

This unique arrangement opens the Wolcov W22 up to a variety of explorations that accentuate its novel silhouette. The watch itself comes in three styles – Neige, Fumée and Onyx. The W22 Neige stands out with its fresh and neutral color tones, creating a striking appearance. The dial’s tone-on-tone design adds a touch of elegance without overwhelming with excessive technical details. The W22 Fumée, on the other hand, is Wolcov’s take on the classic blue fume dial. With its multi-layered design and captivating sunburst finish, this dial is sure to spark engaging conversations. For people looking for a balance between eye-catching and minimal, the W22 Onyx is a fine pick, offering a discreet dial design that’s finished in matte black.

The straps are perhaps the watch’s most defining feature with the way they embrace the watch body from all sides. The W22 features regular and pilot-style straps across a variety of materials that allow you to customize your watch to fit your mood, style, and occasion. The straps snap on rather easily and are available in polyamide as well as different types of leather including cowhide, monitor lizard, crocodile, stingray, and even python. Each strap attaches to the watch using a pair of metal arms that outline its shape beautifully, reinforcing the W22’s unconventionally charming design.

The watch itself features an automatic Sellita SW200 movement encased within an incredibly glossy 316L Stainless Steel body. The front is capped with a sapphire crystal that’s coated with an anti-reflection film, while the watch’s back features an exhibition window, covered with red-tinted mineral glass, making it look unusually interesting no matter which angle you look at it from! The W22 is water-resistant up to 3ATM (although those fancy leather straps aren’t) and you can choose multiple straps with each watch, allowing you to build your own timepiece for every occasion!
