How Dairy Farmers Spend the Holidays

We all have family traditions, from taking part in gingerbread house-building competitions to seeing who can wait the longest to wrap presents. We asked some of the dairy farmers in our region how they and their families spend the holiday season.

Every day is a work day for dairy farmers, so there are several ways they bring the holiday season to their day. Dairy farm families spend the Christmas season...

...With Family

“We spend our holidays like most folks eating and celebrating with family. We just have an added aspect of milking and feeding cows before any presents are opened! It’s special to spend our Christmas in the barn with our livestock just as the very first Christmas in Bethlehem was spent.”

- Katelin Benkoski of Big Sandy Creek Dairy in Madison, Georgia

...With the Community

For over 20 years, Stephenson Dairy Farm in South Carolina has participated in the Town of Lowry’s Old-Fashioned Christmas parade. Each year, the Stephenson family enters a dairy-themed float in the parade and hands out 5,000 pints of chocolate milk to parade attendees. Now that's a great way to spread Christmas cheer!

...With the Cows

“Christmas morning looks a little bit different for us, as all our family traditions are centered around the cows. Our cows need to be fed and milked before Christmas celebrations begin, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.”

- Chris Huffman of Triple H Dairy in Metcalfe County, Kentucky

Before A Much Deserved Rest

“With all the hustle and bustle during the Christmas season, we make sure the cows, calves, employees, and family members are taken care of first. Then we sit back and enjoy some quiet time together with the family.”

-Steve Lee of Lee Farms in Madisonville, Tennessee

However you spend the final days of the year, have a dairy merry Christmas season!
