3 Ways To Celebrate Groundhog Day Again and Again

Since February 2, 1887, Groundhog Day has been celebrated and is likely the world’s most famous yearly weather forecast. According to tradition in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, the beloved groundhog (Phil) comes out of its hole on this day and determines the weather for the next 6 weeks. If he sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter weather, while no shadow means an early spring.

But he’s not the only predictor, and we all guess what our local weather woodchuck will declare and how seriously we will take them this year. So if Phil, or his other meteorologist animal colleagues’, morning predictions will be the highlight of the day, celebrate with these 3 Groundhog Day activities.

We all need a Groundhog Day tradition that seems very familiar. Today, in honor of the day, create your own déjà vu and watch a certain Groundhog Day comedy on repeat. Gather around the tv with snacks and conversation for your evening. Today’s special? Blueberry waffles.

Well, pancakes, but close enough.

Don’t like Phil’s prediction? Announce an early spring. The success rate varies, so perhaps your own analysis of the weather will prove accurate. Spread the word, citing your experience of burrowing into blankets as close enough to digging your own home. Though you likely won’t be able to make your prediction in Groundhogese, others hoping for springtime will happily take you at your word.

Enjoy a day of groundhog favorites. Add peanut butter, fruits, or veggies to your menu to honor the day groundhogs determine how we spend the upcoming weeks. While we don’t know the secret recipe for the potion that, as the legend goes, extends the life of the furry weathermen, we do have recipes for plenty of tasty drinks to extend your energy and happiness.

You want a prediction about the weather? Today, there’s plenty of furry experts. Good or bad, take it in stride with these three easy ways to make the day a reason to celebrate.
